Maybe. Perhaps the idea is that the parent is supposed to die and finding a guardian for the egg is the end of its life cycle. Lots of animals do die after breeding/laying eggs.

Also, irl wasps wouldnβt lose their stingers, since they arenβt barbed and canβt get caught like bee stingers do.
