As someone who grew up in the evangelical church I really identified with the line about fundamentalism as intelligence that is applied very deeply to a very narrow subject matter. I've never thought about it like that but it totally is. Like it gives you permission to discount so many perspectives that don’t line up perfectly with a series of pretty obscure questions that have been debated for centuries and have been answered and theorized in so many different ways.
