Unsanctioned poll on 'Reddit' site

Some Patrons come and go, but this?

 Dude!

But that's not why I am here. I noticed there was a poll on Reddit posted a few days before I did my 10th Anniversary poll.

Tenth Anniversary !

November 20th, 2014 I published the Macintosh SE video as the first in a potential series of documentaries on Macintosh computer models. One motivation was to justify a collection that I had been building since 2004. Another reason was that there were very few videos on old Macintosh computers... at least very few that I foun...

Welcome to Apple ][

65scribe post Welcome to Apple ][ from patreon

1986 was the last time that I touched an Apple ][. That was playing Infocom adventure games at my local library. I always thought that when they became obsolete, there would be endless numbers at second hand stores costing almost nothing. That never did happen in my experience .. I don't know about you.

The road to the Mac Pro (early 2037) has begun

65scribe post The road to the Mac Pro (early 2037) has begun from patreon

In the early days of the Macintosh video series, I thought it would be great to find someone to voice my videos instead of my own unprofessional voice. Today, I wouldn't think of doing that because using one's own voice adds uniqueness and character to the video when it's harder than ever to stand-out. But if I have to tell ...

Dotto on Data

65scribe post Dotto on Data from patreon

I realize a Canadian show about computers from the 90's sounds interesting, but this is great! The corny presentation is endearing and the use of the Macintosh is now a nostalgic look-back. Derek from MacFolklore Radio uploaded these to the internet Archive.

From his description:

"Originally broadcast 1994. ...

65scribe post Zork from patreon

Among of the latest set of TI-99 artifacts was a Zork I disk and manual. Since it was the only Infocom title he had, the game was probably not his thing. I had played through Zork II and III, but never the most popular Zork I. Playing that...

65scribe post More NetWare *Technical* from patreon

This is a follow-up to my previous post on the subject, with some additional insights.

The Apple employee who worked on NetWare for PPC imaged the unreleased NetWare 4 demo disc for me, which I forwarded through Neozeed (Virtually Fun blog) to be dissected by someone with more expertise than I. It was Cameron Kaiser, wh...

TI-99 Alcove

Unfortunately, I have to report that the old family TI-99 computer, joysticks and games were stolen from my late mother's house recently. I hope someone enjoys it, wherever it ends up, and I hope they have a 20+ year old TV to play it on.

Occasionally I get nostalgic for my pre-Macintosh computer, the Texas Instruments ...

Happy Canada Day

To those in Canada, at least. To our neighbours to the south, happy 4th of July soon. and everyone else... I'm a bit vague on.

As promised, a video of the re-vitalized backyard. I'm not purposefully trying to feature the pool, nor is this a product placement.

Feedback

At the one week point exactly, I can say the release of the Power Macintosh G5 video was a great success. Views in the first week were 50% more than my subscriber count, so I can't complain at all. Comments always come in heavy after a video release, but this one was a lot more.

Comments are nearly all positive, but hum...

The long-awaited video is finally released. Members can watch it here, ad-free. It is being released on YouTube today as well, if you prefer to watch videos there.

When I was testing the ad placement on YouTube, an ad for Alibaba came on, using cheese graters as an example of how good their prices are! What?! ... I can...

So, I committed not to cut my back lawn until I finished the G5 video. That did not go so well.

However, we now have a completed video, which I will be rolling out, along with the lawnmower.

YouTube lowers the boom

65scribe post YouTube lowers the boom from patreon

I uploaded a private draft version of the G5 video to YouTube. A couple pieces of music were caught by YouTube's copyright screener. I should have known before I uploaded that those would be a problem! Given the amount of musical pieces in the video, I was happy that's ALL they found.

So, I turn to Alexander Brandon (Fu...

Wrapping up

Thank god the narration is done!

It's been a long time since I spray-painted that blob of plastic in preparation to shoot the G5 video. This video project was larger than any I've undertaken. It was also a refuge for me from grim realities of a difficult year. I've heard many times that the videos help some viewers in t...

Denfield Hoard video creates discussion

The Denfield Hoard release to YouTube last week was a great success, and I was happy to see viewers were excited to see something new.

Report

I'm happy to report the 'linch pin' 2008 Mac Pro is back in operation! What did I do? Nothing really. It just started working again once I disconnected everything, let it sit for a few days, reseated the RAM cards, then reconnected. Since then, I have not had any hint of the previous issue.

That's hardly a technical fix...

After months of watching most* of the Mac Pro 2013 used market prices slip, I opted to jump on a very interesting unit.

September update

1) I got a comment on the LC video:

"The price was garbage - you could buy a 386 with a hard drive, an SVGA monitor, and a SVGA card for that kind of money."

This is the outdated nuts&bolts comparison argument that ignores the user experience. I was having to flip back-and-forth between Mac with System 6/7 and...
