Some Sketching from Life

Ognjen Sporin post Some Sketching from Life from patreon

Some of them are quite crappy but I've learnt to see that almost as a step when you try to relax, first you knock out a couple crappy ones and then they get better again

Spirit Bridge Work in Progress

Ognjen Sporin post Spirit Bridge Work in Progress from patreon

The painting's nearly done, haven't rendered the water yet. I tried to have more strong, simple shapes in the composition and hold back on rendering details, but focus on the bigger read

Bounce Light and Shadows

Ognjen Sporin post Bounce Light and Shadows from patreon

The color of the shadow is determined by the environment.

The environment consists of different light sources. These light sources can be objects from which the primary source is bounced, and also secondary light sources.

Also added some traditional drawings, gotta keep doing those!&nb...

Daily studies and a painting which i don't really like. I'll definitely be doing more figure (especially female) painting studies and posting them along with the process.

Expressions

Ognjen Sporin post Expressions from patreon

The main takeaway from these:

The most important principle in expressions is the action, which  creates stretching and pinching.

Whenever one thing stretches, another pinches (the same thing that happens with the figure). For example, when the forehead muscles con...

More Cute but Deadly Process

Ognjen Sporin post More Cute but Deadly Process from patreon

I was unhappy with the foreground dude and decided to redo him altogether because freestyle painting without a concrete drawing wasn't working out

Also added a PSD with all the layers I had before merging them together

Tropical Island Study

Ognjen Sporin post Tropical Island Study from patreon

A little study for a new illustration along with a process shot and some tips on cast shadow color.

Things to keep in mind:

When an object that's far away casts a shadow, the shadow is filled with ambient light - in this case, it becomes extremely cyan. If the object is close to the ground where it's project...

Creepy Old Dude Study Process

Ognjen Sporin post Creepy Old Dude Study Process from patreon

With this study I had an initial traditional drawing that was pretty precise, I liquified it a bit to get a better likeness and shapes, turned it to multiply and then painted on a layer under it until I merged them together and rendered to a finish.

Expression studies

Ognjen Sporin post Expression studies from patreon

A few studies for a new painting

Whatever kind of complex minor forms created by the expression, always have a firm construction of the big features beforehand, that way you can confidently control the (a)symmetry and add the nuances of the expression without ruining the overall form. For an example of this done badly, ...

Hearthstone Card WIP

Ognjen Sporin post Hearthstone Card WIP from patreon

So i started a new card, a Gorloc! With this one the process is a lot more step-based - did 4 smaller sketches, picked one, did fairly finished lineart, filled in the flat colors and added light and shadow on separate multiply, overlay and screen layers. When I start rendering, I'm gonna flatten all those layers and just keep...

Hearthstone Card WIP

Ognjen Sporin post Hearthstone Card WIP from patreon

Here's some progress shots of a hearthstone card for Blizzard's competition, I tried to go for a more organic workflow but I hadn't planned the composition well enough so I don't like him enough to finish him - he wouldn't read very well as a small card with his head being so tiny and rim-lit :c

Inking drapery

Ognjen Sporin post Inking drapery from patreon

A shirt study done from reference, trying to create visual flow with hatching. When shading with line, all the same principles of drapery drawing apply, but on top of that your lines create not only shadow and form, but also visual flow with their direction.

I added two Frank Godwin drawings as examples of masterf...
