May 5 is my birthday!
May 5 is a national holiday in Japan called "Children's Day".
On Children's Day, families with boys display a long, colorful, carp-shaped flag(Koinobori) outside their homes.
In China, there is a legend that a carp that successfully climbs a fast-flowing waterfall deep in the mountains becomes a dragon and ascends to the sky.
Like that carp, people display carp streamers(Koinobori) outside their homes with the hope that their children will overcome adversity and hardship to achieve success and rise in life.
I hope not only Japanese children but also children all around the world grow up healthy and strong!
