A good sidequest adds to the story and doesn’t feel like filler. A lot of the FFVI sidequests felt this way. Not just generic fetch quests, but meaningful missions that enabled you to get new Espers, equipment, or even characters like Umaro or Shadow (in the world of ruin). They felt like earnestly crafted b-Sides rather than resource gathering or generic escort missions. *currently playing Octopath Traveler. Enjoying it, but a lot of the side missions, as well as the story overall, feels quite generic.
