Rafael Morffi exiting AEW
Added 2023-12-26 15:47:13 +0000 UTCThe Vice President of Live Events and Touring for AEW, Rafael Morffi, is set to leave AEW imminently, as reported by Fightful Select (sign up for their Patreon at fightfulselect.com).
Rafael played a pivotal role in AEW's live event schedule, among many other responsibilities within the company. Notably, he advocated for running Arthur Ashe Stadium, a goal he had envisioned during his time with WWE. It remains unclear who will assume his duties in the short term. However, sweeping changes in terms of buildings and locations are not anticipated, given that much of the schedule for the next year has already been booked in advance.
Rafael has accepted what was described as a fantastic offer with Barclays Center. This new opportunity allows him to be closer to home and reduce travel, a significant shift considering the added weekly commitment with Collision. While he expressed his enjoyment of his time with AEW and mentioned he would miss it, he is genuinely excited about the prospects of his new role.

There were a lot of questionable decisions made by the live events department. Rafael likely didn't make them all but they fell under his leadership. That said it's best to thank him and wish him luck. What's most important is who AEW hires as a replacement. They fumbled the Kevin Mitchell replacement - waisting a valuable year before eventually bringing in Mansury. Let's hope this isn't a repeat.

He may promote Jeff Jarrett to the events position full time. Dana Massie was allowed to step down from merchandising, before being fired. Tony is trying to clean up his inner circle it seems.
