Outsider is an independent media company built for the heart of America; a community of those passionate about being outside, adventure, hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. We are the pulse for entertainment, trending news, and how-tos for the outdoor lifestyle.

ROLE:

The WEEKEND Staff Writer will be responsible for writing daily news desk articles that include but are not limited to entertainment, trending news, celebrities and outdoor lifestyle content. The weekend staff writer will work with the Outsider editorial and content team and will be responsible for producing a set number of articles primarily or exclusively on weekends (there will be daily goals to hit) while also being able to pinpoint content lanes that continue to grow Outsider's audience. NOTE: This is a part-time salaried employee opportunity (two 8-hr shifts on Sat/Sun).

DAY-TO-DAY:

Work with content team members to produce the best of the best, most prioritized content for that day's news cycle
Consistently hit target content frequency goals daily, monthly
Help seek out trending news items that will drive user engagement and brand dedication
Understand search and social performant content so that Outsider can stay at the top of each daily, weekly news cycle

QUALIFICATIONS:

2+ years of professional online writing experience or recent journalism degree
Experience working in trending news, how to prioritize content and Facebook posting and distribution
Experience working in fast-paced, but high-quality writing on a trending news desk
Ability to work independently while managing an aggressive content schedule and daily content frequency goals

YOU MIGHT ALSO HAVE:

Bachelor's in Journalism, Online Media or equivalent
Strong initiative and the ability for creative thinking as it relates to Outsider news desk workflow and content production
Good understanding of SEO, Facebook News Feed and other referral and distribution platforms
