My name is Joshua Sargent and I'm an editor at Hearst Newspapers Affiliate Team. I often wear shoes and enjoy the music of The Mars Volta. Now that pleasantries are out of the way, let's get down to business:

Affiliate writing means that one of our KPIs is sales of products mentioned in our articles, but we're distinct from sponsored content because we have editorial independence from the brands we talk about.

An example of one of our articles, by me: "I've been reporting on face masks for a year. Here's what everyone gets wrong."

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: WRITERS WITH:

Specialized knowledge of a hobby, profession, or lifestyle and the brands and products associated with it.
A clear point of view on that hobby, profession, or lifestyle.
The ability to write clearly, a sense of when an article needs research or an interview to provide authority, and an ability to write about products in an honest way that can be appropriately skeptical when needed, and excited without coming off as disingenuous or sales-y.
An intense nerdiness that can't be contained.

BONUS POINTS IF YOU:

Know what SEO stands for, and have dabbled in those dark magicks.
Are very very funny
Won't roll your eyes at the dumb jokes I obsessively put in every work email (I will know if you do).
Your hobby involves home, cookware, furniture, or technology.

WE WILL PAY:

$200 for articles between 800 - 1,000 words.
$400 for articles between 1000 - 2,000 words.

That's just to start. If we decide you have chops that are sharp enough, there's potential for large, multi-article projects that interlink and provide comprehensive information on a topic (probably the one you're specialized about).
