Three Creeks Media is looking for freelance writers to cover subjects related to military and veteran benefits and personal finance for our military-focused websites. Our mission for these sites is to enhance the lives of veterans, service members and their families by providing digestible, researched and credible finance and benefits news, information, guides and analysis.

COMPENSATION:

Pay per article is typically 50 cents per published word, with intermittent "grab-bag" assignment opportunities compensated at varying flat rates.

RANGE OF COVERAGE:

Topics of interest to our audience include relevant policy updates, retirement planning, saving, investing, real estate, crypto, consumer deals and discounts, disability benefits, education benefits, life after the military (transitioning, civilian job market, etc.) the housing market, base/military housing issues, and more.

IDEAL CANDIDATES:

Have a strong grasp of AP style writing
Are adept at breaking down complex information and processes into digestible, interesting articles for your audience
Are familiar with the military community, the unique programs and opportunities available to it and the unique challenges service members, veterans and their families experience
Understand personal finance and benefits subjects important to the military community.
Are familiar with the government decisions/schedules that impact benefits and programs available to military members and veterans
Are comfortable with deadlines and constructive feedback

ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Three Creeks Media is a new media company committed to educating consumers about mortgages, real estate, personal finance and veteran benefits.

As a TCM freelancer, your schedule is as flexible as you want it to be. You'll have opportunities to take assignments from your editor and are encouraged to pitch your own story ideas frequently. If you've got the time to invest and are passionate about a particular coverage area, there's room to carve it out as a beat for yourself by pitching original stories, jumping on quick-turn breaking assignments, and handling quarterly, annual and seasonal updates.

TCM freelancers work in a supportive, collaborative atmosphere. You'll join a slack channel where you'll interact with your editor and meet other talented writers and copyeditors working to build TCM's new brands by bridging important information gaps for the military community.
