Our rates vary depending on print/digital and length of piece, amount of reporting, number of sources and format (Q&A vs through-written). For a quick hit, aggregated piece in the news cycle without original reporting, it's $100; a reported piece with a source or two under 1000 words is $200; longer pieces with more sources are around $300. If someone is an expert in their field, we can negotiate. In print we're aiming for closer to $1 a word. Not looking for first-person pieces.
