Are you an Apple user who lives and breathes iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple accessories? Do you play with the latest iOS, iPadOS, and macOS betas? We’re looking for someone just like you to write for us here at How-To Geek.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re after an experienced Apple writer to cover tips, tricks, how-tos, shopping guides, and more. The ideal candidate is familiar with a broad selection of Apple devices and operating systems, but especially iPhone and iPad. (Mac knowledge is important, too.)

Of course, just knowing the technology isn’t the only requirement here. You also have to be able to explain this stuff in a simple and effective way. We explain technology and make it easy to understand for a broad audience, whether that’s showing people how to do something on their iPhone, explaining what accessories are best for an iPad, or showing off the latest features in the new macOS.

We are not looking for a writer just to cover Apple news. You may occasionally write something timely and newsy, but that’s not the bulk of what we’re looking for.

This is a freelance position where you’ll be assigned topics to write about, but we also encourage you to pitch your own topics that we haven’t covered yet.

Our standard pay rate is $100 per article. Please see below for some examples of the type of articles you would be writing.

HERE’S WHAT WE ALWAYS LOOK FOR IN NEW WRITERS:

• You must be a geek at heart, always looking to learn more about technology and make your gadgets work better.
• You must be able to explain complex topics in a way that is clear and easy to understand, even to non-experts.
• You must be creative and have the ability to generate article ideas, take suggestions, and make topics interesting and exciting.
• You must be at least 18 years old and have your own computer.
• You must have solid English writing skills. It’s a shame we even have to mention that one.
• You should have some basic screenshot and image editing chops. HTML skills are a plus.

EXAMPLES:

To give you an idea of what we expect, here are a few examples of what we’re looking for:

• How to Use the App Library on iPhone – This article walks readers through using the iPhone feature, with lots of screenshots, and answers questions they might have about it.
• Will macOS Monterey Run on my Mac? – This piece helps readers understand whether they can upgrade their existing Mac to the latest software.
• The Best iPad Pro 12.9-inch Cases to Protect Your Tablet – This guide helps readers dig through all the options and shop for the ideal case for their iPad. (Note: We pay a higher rate for in-depth shopping guides like this one!)
• How to Hide the Red Dot on an Apple Watch – What is that red dot, anyway? This article explains what it is and what you can do about it.

HOW TO APPLY

• Send an email to jobs@howtogeek.com with the subject Apple Writer, and include the following in your email:
• Explain why your geek skills are worth touting to millions of readers each month.
• Your name and location.
• Any previous experience you have with writing and/or blogging, particularly related to Apple.
• Whether or not you are currently employed, and what you do if you are.
• A brief overview of any other topics you are familiar with, and what operating systems, computers, and devices you have access to.
• Most Importantly: We want a writing sample. If you have previous writing to showcase, particularly relevant Apple-related pieces that you’re proud of, include a link to it in your email. If you have a personal blog, a forum account, or a commenter account from anywhere, feel free to include that as well.

We don’t have normal office hours—or even an office—so you can be located anywhere. This is strictly a telecommuting gig.
