Excited to share I'm part of the team launching a new digital magazine about science controversies, misinformation, media portrayal of science, and how can we do better. Pitch me. We pay $1,500 for a 1,200 to 2,000-word (although ideally at the shorter end of that) reported essay by a journalist/writer.
Examples of the types of stories we're looking for includes things like a critique of academic scientists who push conspiracy theories, delving into why our brains believe misinformation by digging into the cognitive science, walking readers through common misrepresentations of scientific topics and/or statistics in the media, or how popular media perpetuates myths about how science is done. We're also interested in the blind spots of science as it is often conceived of and practiced and talked about in the US context, and who is (or has been) harmed by or left out of this capital "S" approach to science.
