Visited by millions each month, Bob Vila publishes new content daily, with themes running the gamut from aspirational to instructional. Readers trust the brand for answers to their peskiest appliance problems, shopping guidance for household staples, and advice on how to streamline household maintenance. Therefore, we rely on our writers to deliver accessible, solidly researched content on anything and everything related to the home: must-do maintenance, real estate, organization, renovation, design, DIY, yard work, and much more.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We’re looking for writers who have experience covering deals and sales for other publications. Ideal deals contributors for Bob Vila are knowledgeable about home and garden products and can turn stories around very quickly, often taking on same-day assignments. An understanding of SEO, Google News, and commerce content best practices is a plus. Bonus points if you’re a self-starter who can help source the best deals that Bob Vila readers would be excited about.

THE ASSIGNMENTS

Our deals content includes quick-turnaround, shoppable stories that highlight the best deals and sales on quality products. Assignments may include feature articles highlighting one great deal or sale, roundups and listicles featuring multiple deals, or coverage of seasonal sales and major deals events, like Prime Day and Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Ideally, deals writers will be able to commit to at least three stories per week. We are looking for writers who are available to complete both same-day assignments and stories assigned in advance.

Assignments are readily available, but pitches are also enthusiastically encouraged and often rewarded with even more assignments that cater to your specific interests. Assignments range from $75 to $300, with rates depending on story length, the amount of necessary research, and the number of products highlighted. We have assignments available ranging from 400-3,000 words.

You will work closely with Bob Vila’s editorial team to produce stories that align with the brand’s voice and style.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ years of experience writing commerce stories for a digital publication(s)
• Sharp writing, editing, and research skills
• Basic WordPress experience and HTML proficiency a plush
• Ability to meet tight deadlines
• Experience writing quick-turnaround stories in a fast-paced environment
• An understanding of SEO and affiliate linking best practices
