Our real estate magazine is geared toward helping realtors and property owners get even better at their careers, and studying best practices for working with tenants. We are looking for one journalist (mandatory PUBLISHED bylines in print or online magazines and newspapers) to join our team. NOTE: If you are not highly interested and/or comfortable researching and reporting on real estate. please do not apply. (Preference will be given to current or past realtors and property owners.)

LOCATION: While the magazine is available to nationwide eyes. our target reading audience is based in Texas (including Austin. Dallas. Houston. College Station. and San Antonio) and Florida (Miami and Orlando). Ideally you live in one of these states, but if not. it's not a deal-breaker. Some of our long-term team also lives in other states. You MUST be willing to become familiar and/or conduct interviews with Texas and Florida real estate professionals (including real estate attorneys, contractors. realtors).

MANDATORY SKILLS (REPORTING): This is not a copywriting/marketing job. It's feature copy and news, with your own research (from credible, governmental and legal websites) and one-on-one interviews. No Wikipedia summaries. Research and fact-checking required.

IDEAL SKILLS: Ideally you can follow an in-house Style Guide, are familiar with AP Style and can turn around a feature story (no interview) within a 7-day time span (of anywhere from 500 to 1.500 words). For interview copy. you can turn it around within a maximum of three weeks at 2.000 words.

INTERVIEWS: In addition to having already published byline magazine or news copy (no ghostwriting clips), you should be comfortable reaching out to industry professionals for video or audio interviews. Some interview contacts will be given. Others require cold calling/emails, as is common in journalism.

PAY: Pay per word is highly preferred. For example, a 2.000-word post at $0.25 per word would be $500. This should include the flexibility for one rewrite. Milestones will be requested for the first half. edited/reviewed, and then the second half. If you have one rate for interviews and another rate for non-interviews. please specify in your cover letter.
