Do you spend a lot of time with the character creator tools in video games? Maybe you’re into installing mods so that your Skyrim hero can look their best? Or you’re embarking on absurd quests in FromSoft games for the express purpose of getting cuter armor? You might have a pitch for our upcoming theme week: Video Game Fashion Week.
There are three styles of story we're looking to include in this package, and that we'd love for you to pitch against:
Features: 1500+ word analysis/research/reported stories that involve interviews with game developers and/or fashion designers about historically or aesthetically significant examples in video game fashion. What do fashion industry experts think about Bayonetta’s looks? Who designed Alucard’s high collar in Castlevania?
Dress-up darlings: 800 word critical spotlights on the best “paper doll” fashion customization experiences ever made – not just the big names, like The Sims 4, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Skyrim, but also Stardoll, Barbie fashion games, etc. Personal angles/anecdotes will help make these pitches stronger.
Curated lists: Rank or rate the best swords, flashiest capes, worst hairstyles, highest heels, and so on.
If you’ve got an idea that’s related to fashion in video games, I definitely want to hear it, even if it’s a bit outside of these prompts.
The theme week is in October, so I’m hoping to get pitches finalized by the end of August. Here’s the full schedule of deadlines:
- August 29 – September 5: Story pitch window
- September 5: Pitches approved/finalized
- September 19: First drafts due
- October 3: All edits wrapped
- October 10: Launch day
