We are looking for freelance reporters anywhere in the U.S. who can cover climate change, child welfare, juvenile justice, disability justice, education, social work and more for $1 per word. We have stories to assign and open to pitches.
To freelance writers, we pay up to $1 per word, though we mostly pay $800 for 800- to 1,200-word densely reported articles that we assign to a diversity of experienced and emerging journalists, including ones with disabilities or other lived experience in the areas we cover. For the occasional Q&A with newsmakers and other less densely reported assignments, we pay $500. We contract professional photojournalists at a standard day rate of $350.
