CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR BOOKLIST’S ANNUAL GUIDE TO GRAPHIC NOVELS IN LIBRARIES
Last year, Booklist published our fourth Guide to Graphic Novels in Libraries, which we mailed with our July issue and distributed at a variety of conferences. We published articles about readers’ advisory and manga, shelving graphic novels, take-home kits using comics, and manga and social-emotional learning. We’re excited to be doing it again for our fifth year, and we’d like your help: we’re in search of submissions from public, school, or academic library workers working with comics and graphic novels, in a variety of capacities, to either contribute original articles or be interviewed by a Booklist editor about your work in the field.
We’re happy to hear pitches on anything pertinent to comics and graphic novels in libraries, but we’re particularly interested in the following topics:
- Webcomics
- Using pop culture as a readers’ advisory hook for comics
- What makes a good graphic memoir?
- Comics in the classroom (K-12 & higher ed)
- Library programs for DIY comics/zines
- Under-the-radar methods for arranging author/artist library visits
- GNs, comics & manga for non-comics readers
- Overlooked backlist titles
- Making a case for comics to parents/teachers
- Why are comics specifically such a target for book banners?
We’re looking for articles to run approximately 1200-2000 words, and the starting rate for contributors who submit original articles is $150. Proposals will be due Jan. 25th, and we’ll make our final selections by Feb. 8th. If selected, your article will be due March 15th.
