Pitches wanted (landscape architecture, parks, urban design, etc.) | ~$1 to $1.3 per word
Added 2023-01-19 17:36:36 +0000 UTCCOMPANY/PUBLICATION: LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE MAGAZINE
Timothy A. Schuler, Contributing Editor at Landscape Architecture Magazine, is looking for pitches:
Landscape Architecture Magazine is seeking short (300-400 words) reported stories for its front-of-book section. The article rate is $400.
Stories should be timely and relevant to an audience of landscape architects, planners, parks professionals, urban designers, and other allied practitioners.
The section covers research, technology, policy, and trends impacting landscape architecture, as well as new landscape projects, exhibitions, and initiatives that help shed light on the state of the discipline.
While we happily receive project pitches, the best stories often use built projects to explore underreported issues within the discipline or illuminate common challenges in new ways. We also embrace stories that focus on a notable but less obvious component of a larger project.
What we are NOT looking for: op-eds, reviews, “think pieces” (though reportage should be thoughtful), profiles, or personal essays.
The magazine’s coverage is generally limited to the U.S., including U.S. territories, though we do occasionally report on projects in Canada, Mexico, or abroad.
Currently, we are especially interested in stories from underrepresented regions and/or communities, including the American South; the Intermountain West; Alaska, Hawaiʻi, and U.S. territories; and rural or historically marginalized communities.
The editors review story ideas on a rolling basis so there is no cutoff for pitches.
Writers must have experience reporting and writing about art, architecture, landscape architecture, or urban design; environmental science/justice; community development; or another related field.
Send story ideas to timothyaschuler@gmail.com. Pitches should be less than 200 words and accompanied by a list of potential sources and at least one published writing sample.
