Jim Bates, Deputy Editor of The Gazette, is looking for writers:
The Gazette is currently hiring freelance writers and photographers to cover stories throughout Colorado. Writers should have experience covering topics relevant to rural communities, including cost of living, water, energy, agriculture, healthcare, population growth, affordable housing, wildlife, outdoor recreation, and arts and entertainment. Candidates must have at least two years of news experience, including some background in covering breaking news. The pay is $100 for a breaking news story and $250 for a multiple-source story of 1,000 words or more. Rates for longer enterprise or investigative pieces will be negotiated individually and can go up to $1,000. Photographers will be paid $100 for a single photo and $250 for a multiple-photo assignment.
