That is one person starting one bookshop *well after anarchism had developed as a distinct current* - exactly as I said. Stirner’s (again: not an anarchist!) late influence over small sections of the movement is critiqued well by Fabbri: https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/luigi-fabbri-stirnerian-individualism-in-the-anarchist-movement. As for crimethinc (and putting aside that I think we should consider the whole world when talking about movements, not just the US), I disagree that they are the best, but also acknowledge they’ve done great work. What’s particularly interesting to note though is I think they’ve significantly improved over the years precisely because they’ve moved so far from their original politics and begun to engage more seriously with the history of anarchism as a mass movement of the proletariat.

"Pretty annoying that Andy acts like *the* left wing version of anarchism is the neo-anarchist crimethinc variety/insurrectionary stuff" crimethinc may no longer be the most relevant left anarchist group in the us (probably are though?) but they're certainly the best "‘Egoism’ also only gained the association with ‘individualist anarchism’ later - Stirner didn’t call himself an anarchist and had no real influence over anarchisms development as a mass movement." benjamin tucker, who was in the first inernational, opened a stirnerite infoshop in boston in 1906. egoism and individualism were by no means dominant in classical anarchism but they were a legitimate and influential tendency during that time

There were self identified communists and I wouldn’t call people who didn’t identify with or influence communism ‘communists’. The person to actually call himself an anarchist at that time was Proudhon, though there was no anarchist movement. The term gets further usage at the time of the First International among the abstentionist and federalist sections, and becomes a clear identifiable revolutionary tendency (influenced by Proudhonists, but still distinct) after the split following Bakunin’s expulsion. This movement - the beginning of an actual anarchist movement - wasnt influenced by Stirner, who was not even associated with anarchism until his ideas were revived later.

Matt Crossin

Couldn’t you say the same for Marx and communism? As far as I know not many people were calling themselves communists while Marx was alive. Or are you referring to Stirners work and did I misunderstand you?

it was interesting but not a great show in the end imo. -andy

The Antifada

I’m sure it is but there are enough bitcoin morons in my day to day life to laugh at, and I can’t help but feel a little sorry for lots of those people

Wasn't it K. S. Robinson who said ancaps are "anarchists who want police to protect them from their slaves" or something to that effect
