Back then, 99% of people thought that Kuma sent them back to the beginning of the grandline to the twin peaks with Crocus so that the strawhats would 'restart' the journey, but this time on a different path. Fair to say that Sabaody is in my personal top 5 favourite arcs alongside Water 7, the two most recent arcs, and an arc you'll probably reach sooner or later.

Luffy was weaker than Crocodile in the beginning and really had to think about how to fight him since he couldn't even touch him. Water 7 introduced plenty of characters that were stronger, and he had to use a power that was even hurting his body to keep up. Thriller Bark was the last warning. The whole crew had to fight together, and Luffy was aided by a power (the shadows) that wasn't his, and even then they still had a hard time. That's why Moria mocked him and dared him to keep on going. It hurts because you have a character that has been pretty much very confident and strong during the show's run, who now was completely powerless and desperate, crying because of his inability to do anything for the people he's supposed and even declared he would protect. Many of us love Sabaody, because it opens up a lot of character development , but it does hurt.
