The title is usually "Ustad", which is Urdu and "Pundit" which is Hindi/Sanskrit. So usually, Muslim musicians gain the title "Ustad" (Utd. Zakir Hussain) and Hindu musicians gain the title "Pundit" (eg. Pt. Bhimsen Joshi).
