Years ago, before Indian mangoes could be exported to the US my grandmother would try to smuggle some in her suitcase on visits here. Once, she got caught by customs and they were about to throw them away. She told them a sob story about how her poor grandkids had never tried mangoes. It was true in spirit since mangoes here are a shadow of the real thing.

The Ataulfo mangoes that you get here are not bad.. they taste like Kesar mangoes of India.. you need to wait for it to ripen though.. and the test is the skin of the mango needs to get wrinkly before you cut open it.. You guys should try them.. currently available in most grocery stores around LA
