Who happens to be the other lead in Unishe April. So we come back after taking a full circle :D

Diya Bhattacharya

By the way, Unishe April stars Debasree in the lead, who happens to be the aunt of Rani Mukherjee.

Bibek Ray Chaudhuri

Yes please, watch Rituparno Ghosh directed films like Unishe April, Titli and Dahan. Also Paromitar Ekdin plz plz plz...directed by legendary Bengali actress Aparna Sen.

I know what you mean. I am not blaming you. This was a very popular choice here. Watch Unishe April. I could have said Ashani Sanket but you have already watched Ray enough to come back to it later. But for the time being, try something diff like Rituparno Ghosh’s Unishe April. It’s a popular movie but please Don’t expect extra artistic stuff here. It’s just a simple story told in a beautiful way that has strong performances.

This film was even heavily up voted in the last patreon poll . It’s been requested for a long time. What do you think should be our next one? Give me One film

OUR STUPID REACTIONS

Rajkahini was an okay/avg watch for me - pretty mediocre like most of Srijit’s films. I am saying this at the cost of sounding weird but I am not a big fan of Srijit Mukherji although he’s considered as one of the best contemporary film makers from Bengal. Personally, i have never “loved” a single movie of his. I may have enjoyed something as a one-time watch worth a lazy afternoon but not something that i regard as a masterpiece or something that reached a level for me as Chokher Bali or Ashani Sanket or even Dracula Sir did, for that matter. This hurts bcz this is your second time watching a Bengali movie and not liking it when there are literally hundreds of gems lying around. After the disaster of Shabdo, i had created a long list of movies and when you had insisted on reducing it to my top 3, i remember this or any of Srijit’s films didn’t even make it to my long list of recommended films, forget being in top 3. So yeah this is what it is.. i guess this is what you get a lot of times when you go with things of mass appeal or when you decide to pick something randomly. I believe you would have enjoyed Bela Sheshe more and it’s not even one of my most fav movies. But then it has Soumitra Chatterjee who, like Big B, can never deliver a bad performance, tries to tell a simple yet important story, has strong performances by the leads and is one of the most successful newer films, so it was on my list. Anyway, i won’t give you many suggestions as i am sure you already have a long list of stuff recommended by me. Just one thing - when you are picking random stuff to watch, try to be genuinely random by not going with something of mass/popular appeal. For example, you may have never heard the name of a movie called Mukherjee Dar Bou (translated to Mr. Mukherjee’s Wife) but try to watch it randomly some day. It’s there on Hoi Choi with subs. You would see how such a simple, unknown movie can deliver such a strong and important message. Btw the actress who played Madam in Rajkahini is also there in that movie in a smaller but more toned-down role. She’s a very popular actress but i am not really a big fan of her either. Last but not the least, do try to get your hands on Chokher Bali’s DVD some day and watch it or some other film like Unishe April, Shubho Mahurat, Antarmahal, Titli or Chitrangada by Rituparno Ghosh.

Lol..I agree...some popular recommendations don't make sense at all !! That's why I guess its necessary to have some actual people with indian movie knowledge in your core group.....other day I saw a recommendation to watch Dhamaal..and it had decent amount of likes...😂
