From Mani ratnam, I’d recommend OK Kanmani, Kannathil Muthamittal, and Alaipayuthey (although you may have seen the Hindi remake of it already - Sathya I think it’s called). Not sure if you’ve seen “96” (not mani ratnam) but that also would be one that you might enjoy. I’d recommend more but don’t want to overload with suggestions😅

Jawan music theme is good. For me the film looks like a film which is supposed to reach more South Indian audience. Still waiting for tickets in Warsaw

2023-08-31 00:25:12 +0000 UTCMerry Christmas was filmed both in Hindi and Tamil with different actors playing the supporting roles in the 2 languages and such movies are called bi-linguals in India (they are rare though). I would consider Jawan to be a Hindi movie because the credited dialogue writer is Sumit Arora (from Family Man, Guns & Gulaabs) who writes in Hindi and the movie was filmed either primarily or only in Hindi. We know that the Tamil version is dubbed for SRK's part which would be significant. Atleast from the songs, it looks like Nayanthara didn't shoot separately for the Tamil version either coz her lip sync too is off in Tamil...will have to see the trailer to be sure that the Tamil actors didn't shoot their dialogue scenes both in Hindi & Tamil but instead dubbed over the Hindi dialogues in Tamil later.

2023-08-30 21:55:38 +0000 UTCI actually like the Hindi version better for this song because they got the singer Vishal Dadlani, one of my favourite singers and his voice suits SRK. It's also a plus when the words match the lip movements in the Hindi version. They should have got Vishal Dadlani to do the Hindi version for Zinda Banda as well. Anirudh sung both versions and I think because Tamil is Ani's native language, the Tamil version sounds wayyyy better than the Hindi one.

They are trying for a fusion where they want the masala and grandeur style of Tamil cinema, but also mount it on a pan-India scale. Having a Bollywood star headline it gives them terrific reach! Imagine a Rajamouli film with MM Keeravani music and Telugu technicians, being made with an Aamir Khan or Hrithik Roshan as the hero. Indian film industry is starting to merge with each other finally now, after decades of Bollywood looking down upon regional industries.
