Impromptu CAGED lesson (beginners welcome) and whatever else you want to learn

Hi Everyone,

Continuing with this "frequent livestreaming" experiment, I'm hanging out this evening talking CAGED system  and whatever else comes up. Going live at 7PM Pacific time.

You can watch later if you don't make it tonight! Feel free to leave a question in the comments below.

Don't be to hard on you Mister Johnson. There are no short cuts to get CAGED into the brain. If someone wants to fully understand the system and use it with no thinking behind is not about how you teach... this person has to have eaten the music theory meal before. And this takes time. Stop this self punishment. I understand this because of you... but I wouldn't have done without your whole music theory lessons.

Another pile of pearls there, thank you. Betty did steal the show, though. :)

Hi Scott, Can't make it tonight. I'm on holiday in Lisbon, Portugal. It's tough - beautiful scenery, 30C and friendly people - but someone's gotta do it. Any recommendations for a basic structure for your first song? I'm thinking soulful fingerstyle vibe. Obrigado.

Second question - when playing a major or minor penatonic the shape remains the same - it's just the starting point that changes - ie it's either your index finger or your pinky that determines whether you're playing major or minor?

Hi Scott - using the Caged shapes I have two questions - the first is when people talk of shape/form 1, 2, 3 etc I'm assuming shape 1 is the C shaped, 2 A shape etc - am I right?

What are your thoughts on the importance of memorization in learning guitar? What do you do if you struggle to memorize patterns?

Hey Scott! I just uploaded a song to the Phrygian Challenge and I notice it sounds pretty different on Studio Monitors, earbuds, iphone or MacBook. Are there any tricks you use to optimize the mix/output for consistent results across devices? Thanks!

Hey Tasha, I have the Bose and I love it. Lightweight, great sound, and long battery life. Downside is there is minimal controls/EQ (though it does have reverb!), but I like the simplicity of the design and ease of use. Great for outdoor jams, coffee shops kinda thing.

I play a hollow body electric

Weight is a big factor!!

I’m flying around, so I’ll check it out later, but I’m trying to figure out the most compact, yet great- sounding rig. Here’s what I require: vocal and guitar inputs, rechargeable amp or speaker (we do a lot of outdoor jams and such). We have one Fishaman loudbox BT and I’ve heard that this Bose is good: https://www.bose.com/p/portable-pa/s1-pro-portable-bluetooth-speaker-system/S1PRO-SPEAKERWIRELESS.html?. I typically use a reverb- delay pedal. Can you also talk about DI boxes? Thx!
