Live Lesson | Writing complementary chord progressions

Hi Everyone,

This is a little lesson about how I approach writing chord progressions that go together. I talk about the descriptive method, what to look out for tonally, rhythmically, and dynamically. I put my own methods to the test in a logic pro project and goof around too much with keyboard bass.

As of this week, I'm going back to Thursday 10am weekly Office Hours - I'll explain a little more then, too!

PS. Will weekly Office Hours be making a comeback or will the format/timing be a bit more impromptu from now on?

Hi Scott, Finally back from my travels and grabbing the guitar again. I realise you've covered this before, but could you speak a little about motivation and how to avoid becoming downhearted if we don't hit the goals we've set for ourselves in the timeframe expected? How do you retain your motivation when things aren't going according to plan or instrument fatigue sets in? Maybe it's one of the pitfalls of trying to get better at guitar but not having a real-life band or group of buddies to play with.

Hm, I may have gotten it sorted, but whenever I figure something out, it feels like it’s just good luck and it might not last🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m trying to start using Logic again and it seems like a constant flow of issues, which makes it prohibitive. My time is limited (like everyone else’s) and I despise using my precious moments figuring this kind of stuff out. One thing Logic has been doing is sending any effects bus I use on one track to every track. It’s probably a really easy fix, but can you help me? My next obstacle will be figuring out why my midi doesn’t show up anymore, but I’ll work on that. It really would be good if I could gain some level of fluency with Logic because it’s such a great tool. During Covid I managed to get up and running to a somewhat decent level, but now 😩😳😭. We have a rehearsal tomorrow during this lesson (for a show Sat), so I will have to catch it later. I’m slowly making my way through those 97 hours of livestreams you did the week you weee avoiding making PDFs 🤣🤣 Good stuff, as always. And once again, if you ever decide to make a basic course on using Logic, from start to finish that would be super cool, but you do you. There’s lots of info tucked away here and there, but I get so overwhelmed (I hate that about me. Lol). Thx!
