Hey Everyone!
Back in the school days, when I was playing locally with my band in Montreal up to 3-4 nights a week, I had a lot of chances to test out new material live on stage since we were always 1 or 2 days away from a local gig.
Production and tour schedules have changed but I sometimes miss the days when I could test some new tracks out every couple of days. To hear them on a big PA system and feel how they play out with some people in the room!
Anyhow... I was invited to come up with some different events for an upcoming festival in Europe. I thought about what was possible and came up with this sketch that you see above. I thought it was a fun opportunity to try something new!
Currently I'm calling it The Funderdome but might change it to The FunderDrome since it's essentially a live scored Remote Control Creature Car Race. LOL. We will be using modified high torque, slow speed "crawler" vehicles for the race. They are heavy duty RC cars that are able get over obstacles like piles of rocks and even drive in the mud! Probably not going to use mud, but we will be building obstacles and hills for the cars to climb over. The race car drivers will be volunteers from the audience just to add the perfect amount of silliness/chaos to the event.
We will run this show like a live mini F1 or Grand Prix, only the cars are slow and about the size of a toaster oven. We will have live commentators and project live camera feeds from multiple cameras (including car dashboard cameras) like they would do in a televised car race.
EXTRA BONUS is that I finally get to try out a bunch of new material from The Slew that we've been working on. Heavy beats which we think will pair well with energy of the car race thing! Excited to share them with those in attendance!
**This is obviously all in a very preliminary stage... But we will be putting it together in the coming weeks before the festival this summer.
It is still unannounced but I'll have more specifics on dates when the festival announces their programme!
Stay tuned!
