Deltron 3030 West Coast Recap!

Greetings Everyone!

Just got back from a whirlwind tour of the West Coast! 14 shows in 16 days. Here are some pics from the road!

We started in Victoria, BC. Here's Del having some fun on the modular synth.

This was our RV and trailer at the beginning of the tour before it was wrapped with the tour imagery.

It looks kinda small but it actually has 9 bunks in it which was enough to fit the whole touring group.

In Seattle we played an outdoor show on the Pier. It was the only outdoor show on the tour. The weather cooperated but we still covered the turntables in reflective sheet all afternoon so the records wouldn't melt! While we were doing the gig, the RV was getting wrapped with the Deltron Anniversary tour images. During the drives, we would talk about music past/present and future. Here I am playing some demos of the new Slew beats for Del to hear. We have been talking about doing a Slew EP which features him shouting on it.

So with the new wrap around the RV, we were no longer able to see out the window. On our way to Oregon, the trailer that we were lugging caught a flat tire. We pulled over and discovered a giant shard of metal we drove over was now stuck in the tire. aiya.

Look it's Mt. Shasta!

We had our first day off in San Francisco. I brought my harddrive that had a bunch of turntable parts in for the next Deltron album. We spent the day at Dan's studio integrating the new layers into the mix.

Hey look! it's an original Jamie Hewlett drawing of the Gorillaz...

My friend, Katherine Kwan, took this photo of Lealani and I performing at the San Francisco show!

Lealani also crowd surfed as she is inclined to do every now and then!

When we got to Santa Ana, the venue made us cake to celebrate the sold out show at The Observatory!

Yes it was delicious but the food coloring was like a serious dye and made your teeth gray for hours. LOL

When we got to LA, Jacob Rosenberg (photographer for Skateboarding Mag, and long time photo collaborator with Del/Hieroglyphics Crew), had rented out a studio and wanted to ask some questions about the making of Deltron 3030 the album. Basically, he's been enlisted to document the origin stories of the group. He shot some of it on these 80s Quasar cameras because they gave a really strange lofi look.

That evening we went to meet up with Jhonen Vasquez (creator of Invader Zim, JTHM and Squee). Lealani also has aspirations to one day have her own animated series, so I thought it would be great to meet with Jhonen and he could talk to us about his experiences with Zim.

We also visited my friend Calder Greenwood, (set builder/designer/director extraordinaire). His workshop is always an inspiring place to visit. I mean he has a tupperware container labelled "ROBOT PARTS".

Look at this space age building he built for his forthcoming sci-fi time travelling film:

And one of the character puppets for his forthcoming movie Clash at Death Mountain.

Here we are in Calder's workshop part of which he is turning into an 80s era video rental shop set someday!

Clockwise from bottom (Keyboard Money Mark, Calder Greenwood, KK Barrett (director of Nufonia Must Fall Live), Me, Jhonen Vasquez.

It was great to catch up with these gents many of whom I hadn't seen since before the pandemic.

And another cake that Goldenvoice made for us for selling out The Regency Ballroom for 3 nights. They somehow managed to print images from Deltron Event II onto the icing. Those character images were designed by Alex Pardee.

FInally, here's a photo Kathy Kwan took of the Deltron Set. Animated still on the screen behind us is by JonJon Animation.

Had a rad time on the tour! Thank you to all of you who came out to see us! We had a great time performing for you! We have our East Coast shows starting in September! Hope to see some of you there!

Thank you for your support!
