This is the actual way I think and write my music.

Motif

The core repeating idea should be an unforgettable ear-worm. This can be achieved with texture or melody or both across the arrangement. This is what makes a song last forever.

Cohesion

The arrangement and its sound should all work together to sell the core idea, and sometimes that includes breaking the cohesion rule purposefully to establish the idea. The feeling has to be right above all else.

Subversion

Spin your inspirations into something that represents your way of thinking. Always ask “what if” when you move to the next section. Oftentimes, songs tell you what they want to be. When you get too comfortable, and feel like you’ve been here before, ask “well what if?”

Support

Everything you do within a song should be in service of that idea that sparked it. Your sounds, your writing, your willingness to go the extra mile for a curiosity. It is always worth it for the experience, even if a time consuming idea doesn’t work out due to technique. You learn invaluable things along the way if you always fight to support the song.

Acceptance

Trust your intuition fully. Ideas aren’t built like cobbled together bricks. They come formlessly and assemble themselves if you let them. If you force an idea to be something you ‘need’ then it will never feel right. Don’t set out to write a hit, set out to write the thing you imagined. People really can tell what’s authentic, whether they know it or not.
