King Kong (1976 version…Air Date Nov. 1, 1996)

Happy Splatterday Night, homies!!

Tonight we have a single-movie ep of Monstervision for your viewing pleasure. JB said when this happened it usually meant there was an NBA Doubleheader, which sounds like the case here since he starts the night off bitchin’ ’bout B-Ball. 😋

Let’s take a look at those Time Codes, shall we? (Since there are no title cards, the spots to pause JB’s commentary are listed in () 😉.)

Start the ...

First segment: Before the flick.

Second segment (5:21): About 22:34 in after Dwan says, "Hey, maybe my luck has changed."

Third segment (6:57): About 35:10 in after the group walks left.

Fourth segment (7:51): About 46:32 in after Jack goes up the gangplank.

Fifth segment (9:03): About 55:06 in after Kong goes back into the jungle.

Sixth segment (10:27): About 1:06:31 in once Dwan screams "Help me!" the second time.

Seventh segment (11:21): About 1:23:20 in after Kong kills the snake, roars and exits stage left.

Eighth segment (16:49): About 1:30:35 in after everyone gathers around the pit Kong fell in.

Ninth segment (17:34): About 1:43:52 in after Fred holds Dwan back.

Tenth segment (18:32): About 1:58:56 in after Kong walks off with Dwan.

Eleventh segment (19:51): After the flick.

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to support the Preserve Halloween Fest today. It’s such a great little con, and I look forward to seeing more of you Mutants tomorrow! 🎃

Have a great rest of your weekend, fiends…and remember the wise words of Dino DeLaurentiis: “When monkey die, everybody cry.” (That quote ALWAYS cracks JB up! 😉😋) 🖤🖤🖤

we need our new season of The Last Drive In....I restarted my SHUDDER subscription for a year back in October! any news when we may get more Joe Bob

OK so here’s the short version. When universal remade King Kong in 1976, RKO sued them for copyright infringement. And universal use their own attorneys to prove that King Kong was in the public domain. What flash forward to 1983 in Nintendo made the video game donkey Kong. Universal sues Nintendo who was a small company at the time, claiming that they were infringing on universal copyright. Nintendo went to trial with them and they used universals own arguments against them and they wound up winning about $1 million in court costs and damages. But the story doesn’t in there, the lawyer who found all of this stuff and saved Nintendo’s bacon was a man named John Kirby. It is believed that Nintendo named the video game character Kirby after him

This King Kong is so long, so very very long, but the short shorts kind of balance it out.

Awww. My pleasure!! I’m sorry you missed last night, but we’ll be back for some horrorday fun in December! 🤠❤️ Hope you feel better very soon! ❤️❤️

"When I miss the Thanksgiving watch-along, I cry." I'm SO BUMMED that I missed the watch-along. I'm not feeling well, so I took a nap before it started and woke up at 3 AM! Don't get old, Darcy, it's no fun. Thank you guys for doing those watch-alongs, they are the highlight of my month, and I'm kicking myself this morning.

RIP Charles Grodin.

Miss Darcy thank you for showing one of my favorite monster vision episodes. And did you know that the 1976 version of King Kong had serious implications in the video game world?
