Elka!

Someone chose a "smug, badass" Elka for their Kickstarter commission. Such houndsmanship.

I'd much rather you give the difference to another artist that you like. Spreading the wealth helps more people, you know?

Cope I swear to god I'm just going to raise my pledge out of spite right now.

John! No one should be spending that kind of money a month on a webcomic. I refuse to allow it :)

Long a post as this I might just add that if you had a 20 dollar tier, maybe even a 30 dollar, Id be happy to do that. Maybe add a few higher tiers you never know it might offset some of it and it is damn good work well worth it.

And a quick analysis of the last Kickstarter, which I also somehow never got around to doing: KS 2 and 3 basically landed in the same results. Same number of contributors, same cash amount. I think it's safe to say your readership has leveled off, and barring some unexpected new reader stream you can probably count on future KS's coming in at the 75k mark. Which isn't bad - it gives you a firmer budget to work with for planning purposes. I do think the KS would have gone up a pretty big notch had the volume 2 reprint happened, but you were in an untenable financial position there - committing to a reprint you couldn't afford would have been suicidally stupid. That said, I don't think you necessarily have to rely on the one giant KS every 2-3 years model. Doing smaller, no-bonus Kickstarters for reprints is a viable way to keep your books in stock, which will help you diversify your revenue streams. You can also do it for other, smaller mechandise - I know pin Kickstarters have been very popular, and I see most of those pegged at $500 for completion. If you're facing down the sheer logistics problem of not having enough hours in the day, there are services like Black Box that help with Kickstarter fulfillment. It can be a way for you to increase merchandising, exchanging a cut of the profits in exchange for the ability to do more than you could solo. I really do want to once again bring up the notion of advertising yourself, even tiny, limited forays are worth attempting. Send a few free ebooks to people who review comics. Try one of the little Facebook targeted ad campaigns - they can cost as little as $20. I wouldn't do this immediately, but if the loss of patrons proves permanent after you re-start updates, you may be able to make up some revenue loss with advertising. Again: it's in defense of your dream job. It's worth it.
