Guard your heart

Good morning!

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23

I listened to a talk by RC Blakes, pastor and speaker, on this topic of Guarding our Hearts.

The Bible says that heart is deceitful above all things (Jeremiah 17:9)

Why is it so important to guard our hearts?

First, our hearts are made up of our spirits, our will/emotions/mind included. We connect to God and ourselves through our spirit. So, if we don’t guard our hearts, we will be all over the place….in emotions, actions, and direction.

The first thing we have to do in order to guard our hearts is to Feed our Spirits. As he says, it is futile to attempt life outside of connection to God and self. You will eventually end up letting others mishandle you.

We must retreat to God and connect deeply to God.

6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Romans 8:6-7
