Self Esteem & Your Value

April 5, 2023

Good morning!

Self Esteem is something I haven’t given a lot of thought. I don’t think of myself as having low self esteem but I started to look into it more because it’s a word you hear and yet what does it really mean?

It seems like present culture would say it’s feeling good about yourself. Their solution is to give everyone a trophy or something similar to that mindset. Does it work? I would guess most people would say that hasn’t been effective. As my kids grew up and saw everyone getting awards and trophies, I listened in on the conversations the friend groups had. They said things like “oh, we got last place” or “we got first place.” Funny thing is that they automatically undid what the grown-ups were trying to avoid- ranking people. The grownups thought that made kids lose self-esteem. In actuality, it robs them of opportunities to build self-esteem.

First, self esteem should come from knowing you have value in the Creator’s eyes. He has a purpose for you and you are valuable. Next, when you consider your self ideals…those things that you have aspirations to achieve, character qualities you hope to build, and so on…if you take action towards those self ideals, you build your self esteem. If you take actions that go against your destiny and purpose, you drag down your self esteem.

Knowing that you have the power of choice should empower you to move towards the ideals with a whole lot of forgiveness toward yourself when you blow it. Because we all blow it. Knowing that blowing it does not blow your value to God should set you up to make great choices once again without dragging around regret.

Where do you need to evaluate yourself? Make sure you look at yourself through the eyes of the One who loved you enough to create you, put you in this specific time and place, and Who sent His only Son to die for you! That is a High Value Individual if you ask me!

But Christ proved God’s passionate love for us by dying in our place while we were still lost and ungodly! Romans 5:8 TPT

I love that verse and remind myself of that often. God works through all these things and can even use them for good. I find that so so encouraging. You are a wonderful, thoughtful person who I know is moving on up

Jennie you are so right. This generation everyone is a winner and that’s not the way to build self-esteem. This generation for the most part give up easily and don’t put much effort into anything. That’s why I so appreciate the being brought up during the time where you got first place or last because it does build self-esteem, character, and a don’t give up spirit. I’ve faced many disappointments and yes some have really knock me down and I wanted to throw in the flag, but because of my upbringing and my faith in God I don’t stay down long. Ultimately without God I wouldn’t have the courage and will power to push past mistakes, shortcomings, bad decisions, and just totally blowing it(opportunities, chances, etc.) “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭37‬ ‭KJV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/1/rom.8.37.KJV

Amen Sis! Perfectly said. Our self esteem needs to be based upon on how our creator esteems us. His loved is not based on our performance or appearance, our likes or followers. It is based on His value for us and that value is equal to His love for His son Jesus. When we accept that as our identity the worlds values mean much less.
