Good morning!

One of the things I ponder a lot is the areas in my life that need changing or tweaking. Sometimes I realize that maybe I just don’t have the desire to change and that’s the problem. I might know that it’s a good idea and I might have a bunch of verses to back it up, but when it comes right down to it, I don’t really have the desire in my heart.

That’s where this verse always hits me differently:

“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.” Philippians 2:13 NLT

At the moment of realization that my heart first needs to change and I am not really able to do that, I recall this verse. God is the One who gives me the desire and the power. He is at work! So, once again, I can say, “God, I surrender to You the desires of my heart. I may not want to change right now but YOU will work in me to change the desires that will be for good.”

Our actions will never change unless our desires change. Behavior modification only lasts so long. Our heart’s desire will always win in the long run.

Therefore, allowing God to change our desires once again puts the focus and dependence on Him. The awareness that apart from Him, I can do nothing means just that! I can’t even change my own desires without Him. I’m ever so grateful that He is all we need and we can depend on Him!
