sleepless much?

Good morning!

What do you do if you can’t sleep? Toss and turn? Get a bit frustrated? Maybe get up and do some things hoping you will get tired? Scroll? Watch Netflix?

I, for one, have spent enough nights with whacky sleep and then a rotten attitude the next day. I got into the habit of praying and if I still can’t sleep, I at least have gotten to the point of using the time to read the Bible and pray. I am convinced that it is one of the best times to hear God, if I create the space.

The thing that I have not been good about is the day after the sleep deprivation. I assume it is a “lost day” and just try to push through it.

Last night, as I write this, I woke up at 1:30am and could not get back to sleep so I did some Bible reading, praying, etc. I also cooked up a storm and did physical therapy exercises! But, I had this little backpack of yuck that I was carrying about how I’d feel during the day.

Then I “happened” to open my book to a section where the author Merlin Carothers spoke about the years he felt rotten after a bad night of sleep. It occurred to him that this was an opportunity. If God saw fit to want to talk to him in the wee hours of the morning, then He could surely bring him through the day. Being negative in thought had created negative attitudes and behaviors in the past. He decided to change that. Now he praises God for how He will get him through the day and for the opportunity to spend quiet time with Him alone.

After reading that early this morning, I decided it was going to be a great day. Nothing wasted and nothing to worry about. Interestingly, I had probably one of the most productive yet relaxed days I’ve had in a long time. Things were not rattling me and I was rejoicing in all the situations and things that came at me.

If getting up early was a habit for Jesus, then surely I cannot be a bad thing for us :)

The way we think about it is key. Praise Him and thank Him and watch for all the opportunities He brings your way!

"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed".  Mark 1:35

sleepless much?

Comments

I generally sleep very well, but on the occasion that I do wake up in the middle of the night I usually think that there is something God wants to talk about, so we talk and eventually I fall back to sleep for an hour or so, then wake up feeling fine.

Jimjam the truth man
