Payment Declines

If you've already seen this from a bunch of other people you follow, I apologize, I'm just trying to make sure you didn't miss it.

Patreon apparently had some problems processing payments this month and a ton of them got declined. Apparently most people whose payments got declined didn't even get a notice, so they might not be aware that they got booted from their donation tiers.

So far the only solution I've seen anyone propose is calling your bank to let them know that Patreon is a legit charge and to not decline it in the future. But apparently until you do this that means you won't have access to your donation tiers or anything.

I'd fix it for you on this side if I could, guys, but this issue is 100% out of my hands. Your payment info and the processing of it is handled entirely by Patreon and I never see it or touch it. But if you've suddenly lost access to the incremental build posts or the recent poll, it's probably because your payment didn't actually go through and Patreon auto-booted you. Once you fix it with your bank you should be able to resubscribe to your tier... charge up front will charge you again, but it'll work out the same since the previous charge didn't go through (though you might want to wait and confirm that first).

Same here payment has since gone through damn that freaked me out when I got the call

As I understand it, the problem is that Patreon changed to a European bank, which created a lot of confusion, and banks have a serious tendency to assume fraud when they see foreign purchases.

hey

They switched what bank they were with, from an American one to a British one.

Though that's on Patreon, I'm still sorry. I know just hearing that kind of thing can be stressful and that sucks.

Yeah, it didn't go through yesterday for some reason, and I wake up to calls from my bank about fraudulent charges. That was a doozy.

Geez, what the hell did they do? Yeah, I never really doubted the issue was mostly on Patreon's end. I doubt it was something they did deliberately, but who knows what they were actually trying to do.

I noticed they were sending some single dollar charges towards the end of last month that looked super fraudulent so I'd locked my card. Real charge has the same made up address as those ones, and the name changed. I can't fault other people's banks for blocking a charge from "130 Old Street, INTERNET", this problem is totally Patreon's fault.
