Iratus: Lord of the Dead or why some games can't be fixed

The GOG giveaway of today is Iratus: Lost of the Dead and it is another case in point on why some games cannot be forced to properly support wider aspect ratios.

The screenshots I attached feature the first level of the game as it is seen in the game, as well as its unpacked assets that the background is composed of. They are only 2048 pixels in width, meaning that there is simply no art to fully cover the width of 2560x1080 or wider.

A visual novel or a game like Iratus can get away with static hand-drawn background assets if they do not scroll. Although it is a shame that the images are not wider, we at least cannot blame the developers for hiding something behind black bars. A modder passionate about the game could just do their impression of the backgrounds and fill the gaps with new art but that would be a major undertaking leaving no room for fixing other games. So we move on!
