Fun fact, I don't think they ever specifically point it out in the anime but they do hint at it, Al has a habit of finding stray cats and hiding them in his armor from Ed. Eventually Ed finds them and makes Al get rid of them because they can't keep a cat with their lifestyle. That's what Ed was referencing about stray cats.
