Dealing with Star Butterfly's Hair
Added 2016-04-23 18:54:49 +0000 UTCStar is the most difficult to animate not only because her design is more intricate, but also so I can capture the way he hair overlaps her eyes like they do in the show. This is done via mask layers. Basically it involves me creating symbols for her eyes (and sometimes pupils)and bangs, and making duplicates of them and its animation, where there's only the outlines of the eyes, and I remove the outlines of her bang. The duplicated bangs serve as a mask to the duplicated eyes, thus creating the effect.
A Flash file available to download for $5 patrons back in February shows this.

That's another way to do it. I wonder if it's easier....
