This weekend we had to remove a lot of burrs from Finnegan’s tail, and for those who are unfamiliar, foxes very much dislike having their tails touched - not unlike your cat and their tummy. Believe it or not, foxes have very delicate bone structures, so they use that very fluffy tail to keep other foxes and predators away from things that are theirs. They would much rather another fox grab that tail, than say, grab their leg.
Finnegan had two big clumps of burrs and even though he really just wanted us to put him down and stop touching his tail, he was so brave as we pulled them out. We remove them by pulling the fur down and away from the base of where the burr is attached. It’s a very slow process!
Burr bushes are a constant battle we fight here, every time we think we have them all, they seem to appear again.
Join us in giving Finn a big cheer for being so patient!
