Added 2017-05-31 02:56:46 +0000 UTCI am devoting this week to getting ahead with EGS:NP and story comics, and it has been going well. I am working with the goal of getting 4 comics ahead in each section, and I am well on my way to reaching that goal.
The reason for this, aside from the obvious benefits of a buffer, is to be a week +1 ahead so that nothing is last minute, and I can optimize production. With that buffer in place, I should easily have time to make images for here and sketchbooks for the site, and if something unexpected happens, I can count on having a weekend to help recover.
Currently, I have EGS:NP comics and commentaries done through Monday, 3 more EGS:NPs written that I intend to make on Thursday, and I have five story comics partly done that I intend to fully finish tomorrow.
Should all go well, after this week, I can go back to making 3 of each a week and still be more than a week ahead, and I can make them in a way that's faster than if I have to completely finish each of them in one day.

The secret is work much longer hours than normal for one week and leave room to rest a bit after.

2017-05-31 03:41:51 +0000 UTCReally, a 2 week buffer would be better. I consider a 4 comic buffer to basically be the minimum to make this work. Making the buffer bigger is easier once you actually have it, though.

2017-05-31 03:09:03 +0000 UTCSounds like a good plan, Dan! I work with two other webcomic artists, and one keeps a ~2 week buffer, while the other tries to keep a buffer, but rarely succeeds. The long buffer helps sooo much!
