Okay, I sort of can if I have something of my own to listen to that involves people talking (like, say, my own conversation), but I have so much trouble just ignoring sounds around me.

Even *if* I'm in a conversation with other people, even *if* I'm talking to other people at the time the thing is said, I will sometimes overhear people talking quietly around me. Which makes it very difficult to engage in conversations. But also in some cases makes it difficult to not interject into conversations I'm not a part of, especially those that happen in my own home.

Also a slightly more effective way of obtaining the information you need to do your job than being told straight up or asking in the first place. Weird.
