I did originally get fascinated by the power woman concept actually from seeing early wonder woman & a scantly clad lady on a paintball advertisement in the early 90s.
All I knew then was I wanted a strong powerful woman.
Fast Forward to seeing some Japanese Cartoons with the Zako in it, it fascinated me more.
While we did start purely with Zako only, Power women were written in.
SO not long after Ana did a shoot I spoke to her and explained the concept.
Its very layered and deep, not just superficial, while we get to admire our women, not for one second are they weak.
In the explanation of expenditure she posed a question " So do the combat units die, like is that it when they are expended".
I said, "yes, thats what happens".
A bit of a pause with fascination, "that is brutal, but quite sexy in a way".
The concept Fascinates them as much as anyone. We watch horror, we gawk at news, try to look away from a car wreck.
But Neon Dark is pure fantasy, its fantasising about the notion of sacrifice.
The twists and plot in which it is carried out & the rational are not far from the real world.
How things are rationalised in the name of profit.
So when I said to her, would you like to role play the commander, would you like to order them around?
She said, yes at first, but then became disinterested.
She wanted to be a combatant.
She only wants to be a Zako.
Because she sees the fantasy in sacrificing herself for something as trivial as an order
because she contemplates what she would sacrifice anything for her family.
