I once saw the theory that James didn't identify with Ana but with Christian and suddenly the book series and James' continuing to double down on how sexy and romantic Christian is made so much more sense.

I know we'll never see it, but imagine if you will a 4th book. In which Anna realises all the abuse and trauma she experienced with Christian and realises all the times she realised it but didn't act.

You know, it hit me that the character of Christian sounds, from your descriptions, like a combination of Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer (charismatic, manipulative, good looking and able to use that, self-obsessed, egotistical, intelligent but very twisted, flaunted the law, good at gaslighting others, out to make sex solely about him and damn the other person), and EL James is one of those women who wrote to TB in jail and couldn't believe "he was a bad guy and those nasty police were going to kill him." Insert eye roll here. Thank you very much for these summaries so I never have to go near these books. As someone who reads fanfics for fun, this is the type of drek that makes me mad when I come across it, and that is quite often. The thought that such bad writing would not only be taken seriously, but praised and monetized is one of those "losing faith in humanity" moments.

(And honest question because not native speaker - is the psychiatrist unaware of Christians changes or in awe? I thought the latter was pronounced differently but I always have trouble with different accents.)
