2023-09-25 19:23:04 +0000 UTCI have a feeling you were probably pretty young at the time, in which case Cast Lead may be described as a grain of sand on the beach of wars, illegal wars, war crimes, and crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Israeli government over the last eight decades. It was the first time even liberal mainstream media started (barely) questioning the standard narrative. The confluence of Case Lead, digital media, and the IDF’s humiliating military performance - especially after the 2006 invasion of Lebanon - on top of what amounted to unrestricted warfare on Palestinians finally started a process of being able to openly criticize the Israeli government. Unless one didn’t watch local, national or online news the 2008-09 Gazan War was impossible to miss. I was fortunate enough to be presenting a paper at the 2009 AHA conference that year and got to spend a lot of time at the UN and especially the Israeli consulate in Manhattan protesting with people from all over the world.
