The Navy Seals are just the latest incarnation of the American frontiersman. Their various crime rings are essential to the maintenance of US hegemony because they make sure the local black market uses US currency and the dollar gets propped up.

Andrew Criscione

Best eps are where Felix mentions MGS

Thomas Carroll

This ep makes me think of the Vin Diesel vehicle and military propaganda film “the Pacifier”, in which he plays a navy seal who is tasked with protecting a wife and her kids after the husband is kidnapped or killed or something by terrorists. Hijinks ensue. I should look up what goofy plot the writers came up with to justify a navy seal personally protecting a family and driving the kids to soccer practice.

Three points arising: lack of Jus in bello follows inexorably from lack of jus ad bellum. The basic wrongness of the wars diends up dictating wrongness of methods. Secondly all soldiering is intrinsically disgusting. This is a difference of degree not of kind. Thirdly impunity encourages vice. US military get away with shit, so there's nothing stopping them doing shit. In ancient times it was the horse nomads who acquired the reputation for savagery, because they could ride away from their crimes and couldn't be identified. Today it's the Navy SEALS, because there is no consequences. The same thing with US police but to a lesser extent, and with US voters about US foreign policy. Nothing ever comes back to bite the homeland, so people can vote for militarism with zero fear.

Bin Ladin was never on dialysis. That was based on a 2002 interview on CNN with the Pakistan President Gen. Pervez Musharraf. The guy said bin Laden "had probably died of kidney failure, and that he'd taken two dialysis machines into Afghanistan with him." But no one else ever corroborated that.

The Children of Jack Acid

just to be clear, the green beret/SEAL incident was *not* the one where a SEAL killed a green beret and then claimed he tried to do an emergency tracheotomy?

Doug Cartel

Mentioning canoeing as much as you did was so disturbing.

Gorgeousgeorge

Please do a reading series on this. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2021/08/13/qanon-radicalization-bernie-sanders-supporter-503295

Wow this was the first chapo EP I had a hard time listening to. Canoeing really is something.

No Will, after Vietnam it did not explode, the Army set up a program for it, but soldiers had LIVES to return to at that time. Read up.

Lesley Anne Noelle

In 2004, Will?

Lesley Anne Noelle

What recording of “Anchors Aweigh” is the outro?

You should make this publicly available

Kyle LoPinto

Take a month off. I did this earlier this year and I felt better. Give your brain a "1985" just read books, watch stuff on tv at night. The internet can be bad for your brain if you're anything like me - I don't know how to say "when" and I doubt I ever will.

J.W.

I don't know if I can listen anymore, the truth is really depressing me. It all feels hopeless.

Superb episode! It's worth noting that Sweden has larger imperialist ambitions than is in any way reasonable. Afghanistan is the largest Swedish military operation abroad in a long time if not ever and the country has had special operations soldiers there and a bunch of other countries. A Swedish operator even died from in Afghanistan. It was from an IED on routine patrol but the flag wavers tried really hard to make him up to be a war hero.

It all started with Popeye, they make this once kids with dreams of sailing the ocean into murderers with his clubbing Brutus and spinach, which is an allegory for drugs. And Olivia made of rubber is what it made think these guys that afghan civilians can bounce and slither away from shootings.

Daniel Martínez González

Get @thelateempire on to talk lebanon politics

calvin kilby

any chance you guys could do an ep. on what's happening in Lebanon? shit's fucked and transparently US / Israel making things worse to try and get to a situation where they can weaken Hezbollah ahead of the next war. Like feel like a bonus interview with someone on the topic would be really good

JV

this is the thing they read for this: https://theintercept.com/2017/01/10/the-crimes-of-seal-team-6/

Felix sounds like he’s calling in from South Lebanon again

Gotta luv your local death squad

Jonathan lees

do people actually shot anavar? I've always thought it's an oral

Gabriel Bowater

TrueAnon’s latest episode is about the Mexican cartel wars. That and this episode are a just a barrage of the rhymes that Felix talks about. I highly recommend listening to it.

Julia

Boys, I gotta say you outdid yourselves on this episode. This one is both interesting, informative, and shocking. I don't normally bring this up but you guys gotta unlock this one. If you really want to push your Patreon, have Chris do a small promo for the Patreon account that he splices in just before the beginning of the episode. I don't think you'll regret it.

Jonny confuse by corndog

Probably only a matter of time before these guys are "canoeing" protesters back home

AKorgar

Will, did you really need to say “gay shit” pejoratively, early on in this episode? Did not need to hear that. Gay shit is good, and the phrase should only be used to describe something positive.

writing a book???

I don't think the SEALs were involved and I don't think that kind of ritual mutilation was common enough.

Doug Cartel

What's the academics "news" site they reference?

Wheres Amber?

What are the odds Pat Tillman was canoed?

Julie Baxter

Does Chris not see Felix's audio going into the red every third word he says or what

Alex reynolds

If the Swedish politician you mean is Carl Bildt, that guy's got some cool background in oil and Sudan

Ale

Great ep

bbkj

salute to the game wardens and park rangers.

Reverend Carter

As a child/teen I dreamed of joining the SEALs. When I was 20 I decided against it. Figured it would require too much mental gymnastics. Apparently I was right. I really just like working out and drugs.

Joshua Garcia

Didn't the Bush administration let Bin Laden "slip away" so it wouldn't mess-up their imminent invasion of Iraq? He was more useful at that point as a boogeyman in the War on Terror. Shit, Bin Laden practically gave Bush the '04 election. Obama went hard for Bin Laden because he thought he could get Republicans to respect him for it.

Hade

Felix's mic is routinely an issue. Holy shit.

Chris can you pls fix Felix's mic

Jeanne

are there entities allowed to judge you besides god?

etienne

Goddamn cockbreath commie motherfuckers

steeze4real

We never got Hitler's body either. If they were going to lie about killing Bin Laden why didn't Bush do it and why hasn't any prominent Al Qaeda said he's alive or claim he died from kidney issues? You don't think Bush would have loved to get Bin Laden to secure his legacy? No one gave a shit that Obama got Bin Laden in 2012

GI Jane is a hero

In this Behemoth Typhoon, Goldlewis lays waste to an 80 person wedding in Kabul

G. Gordon Litty

Obviously he was already killed ten years ago

Hade

what's your point? videogames aren't real

Nathan

Doesn't matt play video games that more or less glorify these guys all the time? Least the ethos of those guys

Lol, hard to let go of the seals, eh?

Damn was hoping for a movie mindset on The Suicide Squad. The only DC movie you guys won't review is the only legitimately good one? This episode is kinda a bummer but good though edit: Jon Cena will keep the peace, no matter the cost

Hade

i feel like you'd be better off talking about this with your friends and family than trying to get them to listen to three thirty-something white guys in brooklyn riff on war crimes for an hour and a half i mean if you're trying to convince them of anything

Evan Scott

When my father was a young Green Beret officer in the 70s he did this whole observational exercise in Greece w whatever the ur-version of the SEALS was at that time. They were still kind of of JV back then and the DOD / SOG wasn’t so sure about their future. Many in the greater special operations community were wary esp my father who’d completed the BUDS course w them years earlier in order for ‘frog man’ qualification and then in turn training them in Green Beret shit later. ‘Bunch of fuckin yahoos’ was the quote. During the exercises he said they almost started a war between Greece and Turkey like twice by mock invading the wrong islands. He had to call the ambassador or something to cool things off.. And at the end they all got drunk and burned all these special maps (and their clothes) the Greek army had loaned them. My dad said he and the other Green Berets took all their passports and just ditched them in Greece prior to recommending they be completely disbanded.

Eric K

bad audio?

As a bearded man who does drugs, I can confirm I am accountable only to myself.

Wonder if the Chapo boys have heard of Adrian Carton de Wiart...?

October

yessssss finally. never thought we’d see this ep come to fruition

tyler

Check out the book Victory Point.

The IJN battleship Mutsu was *also* blown up in port before even entering service, purportedly by a disgruntled sailor starting a fire that spread to a turret magazine. With all that water around there must be kinda human drive for balance or something.

Jon Lyons

Dirlewanger is more like deer leh vanger

Red Herring McGuffin

Dug this episode, but god their (particularly Wills) instinct to be attracted to the most narratively exciting conspiracy thinking (in this case, specifically that bin laden wasnt really killed) is boring.

Matt Crossin

Who gets their skin caught like that? What a retard....

markers

The problem is if you try explaining this stuff to people, they become extremely angry or shut down. Almost nobody wants to hear it. Good episode

David Andrews

I second the idea that we need Felix to give his take on Gold Lewis Dickenson, the secretary of ABSOLUTE defense

Dontmindme27

like them or hate them, lying bastard navy seals make good subjects for brooding murder ballads

Hayley

When I was a kid I knew someone who wanted to be a Navy SEAL. Once he saw me crying and he was like "Don't cry. Crying is weak. I once got the skin on my ankle caught in my bicycle and it got ripped off and the pain was excruciating but did you see me crying? Hell no!" I wonder what ever happened to him.

William Tomlinson

I love birds. True quail like Bobwhites and California Quail, and also Chukar, can run insanely fast. A big dumb bird is probably a pheasant

Matthew Black

This still wasn't as depressing as the Pen 15 episode.

Evan Pitkin

Because ur mom is gay

Yeahman

does Felix's mic sound especially like dog shit in this episode? is it a shtick? (haven't been around long enough to know) I just don't get why someone who makes like $250k a year wouldn't get a better mic

lolwuthappend

You can just download it, Patreon has that feature

Forrest Taylor

I mean if you don’t unlock it I will pirate it anyway. But a lot of other people are gonna be too lazy to do that

uya

I really hope you guys unlock this episode. This is the kind of shit I need to send to my friends and family that think it’s an exaggeration to call the US the most evil country on earth

uya

acronym, christman

john mccainus

The fat birds are called quails. The canned hunt where Dick Cheney shot that guy in the face was worse than you would think. Quail are put in wire cages face down so they take even longer to take wing. That means these almost flightless birds become even easier to shoot. This is the exact opposite of hunting.

T.A. Martin

to add on to the rogue warrior video game Richard Marcinko was voiced by Mickey Rourke

Been listening since the beginning, finally you fellas are doing it

justDave

I initially read this as smuggling the Hefeweizen _into_ Germany which is the only way this story could be improved

Matthew Black

Need Felix’s take on Goldlewis Dickinson. Also arson in the Navy is also weirdly common, I mostly know Japan but the Mikasa (like the most famous IJN battleship after the Yamato) was blown up in a suicide attempt in 1912. There was also a giant fire on the USS George Washington like ten years ago. Also wanted to hear more about the connection between the Operator and Dumb Guy with a Gun (eg those guys who tried to overthrow Maduro) archetype. There’s ultimately no difference besides the silly hats and ultimately, the fetishism of violence. I also wonder to what degree the greater discord in the Navy SEALs is a product of just straight up racism no longer functioning as a principle of unit cohesion.

Matthew Black

Chris delivers

Jake Zydek

Cheers, mate!

Mmm savory slop

Naked Shitter

thx for the good jobs u guys always do 👍😜

Clint Pelvis

Getting high and listening to this tonight before three days of grueling, exploitative work.

Ahoy sailor!

Ophelia Mayer

Bill McRavens commo team took over the office where I worked in Kabul (2012) for 48 hours and in that time they sexually harased the one woman who worked their, stole my coffee maker, and broke 60% of the furniture. Another time I worked with seals they were allowed to do their own customs seals and manifests on shipping containers going from Germany back to JSOC and they smuggled atleast 100 crates of hefeweizen back. That was their standard operating pattern for transit from theater to the states. So you can see how easy it would be for any other sort of trafficking to be carried out.

Neil Jones

Go slit a kid's throat

Kasz

Hey! I'm a Navy SEAL! You guys are mean! 😡

Biffy Caltrops

ya kno, this ain’t poppy pt. 3, but sometimes life gives ya what u don’t want but what ya need
