I like the Death Troopers, but Rebels is starting to over use them, which is diminishing how unique and cool they are. They only ever gave us Vader in small doses, and it was perfect. They should do the same for the Death Troopers. But I believe the Death Troopers are special forces stormtroopers that are used to guard high profile officers, like Krennic and Thrawn, and their important projects, the Death Star and the Tie Defender.

The Death Trooper is foreshadowing Thrawn's arrival next episode. We've seen him with DT's before, and we know the Tie Defender is his lovechild.

I’ve always assumed that Death Troopers are like the Empire’s Secret Service. Krennic isn’t connected, he should be looking over the final stages of completing the Death Star right about now.

You'd have a point if the main Death Trooper during the last two parter weren't Female. They just seem to be field commanders for important assignments though.

I think they are secret better trained troopers or maybe the last group of clone troopers made and they are just better then the enlisted white troopers and the death troopers are not assigned too krennic but high command Emperor favorite officers.

According to Pablo Hidalgo, the Death troopers talk a different language when communicating with each other. They can talk basic when commanding troops that don't understand their alternate language.

Death Troopers are part of Imperial Intelligence. They can be assigned as bodyguards to high ranking Imperials or members of the Tarkin Initiative, such as Krennic. They are not exclusive to Krennic or the Death Star project. Thrawn has also been using them as bodyguards since last season. Check the Rogue One Visual Dictionary I got you guys last year for more info about them.

As for the non-encrypted voices for the Death Troopers. Pablo said on Rebels Recon that that's mostly for the audience. They can talk to each other on encrypted voices but, if they need to talk to anyone else, they can easily speak basic like everyone else.

No, unfortunately I think they're just using Death Troopers as generic Stormtrooper mini-bosses now, which kind of sucks. Makes them seem much less unique if there's a Deathtrooper on every street corner...

The Death Troopers are assigned to high ranking members of the Empire , specifcally the Tarkin Initiative. Don't know why one was in a cantina on Lothal 😅

The Tie Defender is pretty important to the empire, there’s probably a High up Imperial official present on Lothal as well, that’s probably why the Death trooper is there.

They just guard important figures like Krennic and Thrawn as well as high profile projects such as Stardust (The Death Star) and the TIE Defender project

The death troopers only speak in their warbled, encrypted speech if they're on a mission with other death troopers and need to keep their communication secure. If they're not out on a mission, like last week, or are working with standard stormtroopers and officers, there is no reason for their speech to be encrypted. In regards to Cassian and K-2SO, there was a comic one-shot showing how they initially met and how Cassian reprogrammed him.

Honestly, I want to say yes but my gut says no, and that Death Troopers are simply assigned to important people or places to safeguard. Whether a Grand Admiral or a super secret battle station. In this episode is the super secret TIE Defender project which would make sense, especially since it's a project that Thrawn has been overseeing personally.
