Star Wars Rebels 4x9 Poll!

Do you think Hera being such a good hand to hand fighter against Rukh was a good thing or bad thing?

Comments

Well, her dad is a freedom fighter and she definitely learnt a lot along the way! Hera has always been a special character, and I think this season is showing other sides that makes Hera so badass! She didn't survived all the way to Rogue One relying just on luck.

RoadRaf

Well, she wasn't, was she? It only makes sense that she's a skilled hand-to-hand fighter - that was essentially professional boxing she did, not simple brawling - but the story/animation departments didn't go overboard either. she was able to hold him off for a little while, but he eventually got the upper hand. Plus, we have to remember that he was clearly holding back, trying not to kill her as per Thrawn's orders.

Albert Johfur

I think Hera would be good in a fight or a brawl. But not on the level of a top assassian personally favored by Thrawn.

Jason Jeffory

It pretty reasonable that Hera's a good hand to hand fighter. Remember, her dad is a freedom fighter and her love interest is a Jedi/Smuggler. She's probably learnt a few things.

ElBilbo

I'd like to second this.

Eric Smith

I don't know you may like to reread some of that book to avoid spoilers. Shaketown ally fight, the buss chase, and the explosive depot. Hera out shined Kanan in all of them in my opinion.

Bruce E. Chmiel

She never really fought anyone in a New Dawn. She used her blaster but Kanan did most of the fighting

Seany McBuckets

It's bad because Hera has never shown any signs of being a hand-to-hand combatant. Its like they have to make characters like her and Sabine good at everything. Characters are more intriguing to watch when they are flawed. Even Ahsoka grew throughout the Clone Wars. But I could live with that if she was fighting a stormtrooper or something but they keep calling Rukh this great assassin yet we've never seen him assassinate anyone or really do that well in a fight. Definitely diminishes his threat and my interest in him. Especially as cool as he is in the Thrawn Trilogy

Seany McBuckets

Its not a Knock Against Hera's fighting skills he is just highly skilled Bounty Hunter type. Cad Bane took on Jedi and not chumps Anakin and Obi Wan. Hera was just out classed but she will live to Fight another day.

Skeletor

The Ruhk thing is weird, because Ruhk easily beat the snot out of Ezra last time, but apparently had trouble with Hera. So he could probably go toe-to-toe with Kanan a little, they just had to temporarily nerf him for Hera's sake. I could see Hera catching him off guard with her skills the first time around (she WAS trained by Cham Syndulla after all), but yeah, the second time around he should've absolutely dominated her.

Wolf6120

Hera would have been taught Hand to Hand Combat in her youth so the fact she can fight shouldn't be a surprise. Also as it's been said she lost both fights, she was just able to hold him off for a time. Plus Thrawn wants Hera alive so Rukh would likely have been holding back a little as to not kill her.

Ryan Witalison

I didn't really have the idea that Hera had a real good shot against Rukh. She lost both times, the first time even being saved by Chopper. Yeah, she fought well, but I think he probably kept back to keep her alive

Flashback007

You guys need to read more. Hera has been a field agent/spy for fulcrum before she met Kanan Alone she kicked all kinds of ass not needing to touch her blaster. Now in the show, she has a crew so she can be the wheel man and let her crew accomplish the task. A New Dawn is a great read and it is relatively short. It would not be too far fetched that between missions she would continue to hone her skills to keep in form, practicing with Sabine or Kanan.

Bruce E. Chmiel

Hard for me to judge, I already knew Rukh as a badass fighter so it felt more like establishing how good Hera is than diminishing Rukh to me; sometimes it's hard to separate Legends material from the Canon, but so far they've shown Rukh to be pretty much the same he was there. If you see a scene of a new hero going one v one against Batman and holding himself up, you wouldn't feel like Batman was a bad fighter, it'd just feel like the new guy is showing he's good too.

Mordirit

Hera is the daughter of Cham Syndulla and we know he was especially harsh on her with the Free Ryloth movement going on, so I can imagine she was kind of forced to learn to fight.

IrishNexus

Why shouldn't it be a natural assumption that freedom fighter Cham-daddy would have trained her in hand to hand combat?

The Amish Electrician

She was raised surrounded by freedom fighters, so she probably had combat training since she was a child.
